Thank you

Thank you to everyone who posted comments about my trials and tribulations and everyone who offered support over Facebook and Twitter re: our break in.

We have had the police check for fingerprints (no go) and they did take some DNA swabs from the computer cables.  So far no news.  I honestly am not expecting any.  This way I don't get my hopes up and magically hope my computer arrives back in perfect condition.  So I am buying a new one today (despite the fact I'm low on funds) b/c I cannot live here at the library 24/7 every time I need to use a computer and using my iPhone as much as I love it, is not conducive to doing work.

I'm still sick.  :(  This has been going on a month and I am going back to the GP today and I am begging for something b/c I am so tired of feeling ill.  I didn't sleep well last night, half on the couch, half in bed, alternating from freezing and sweating and being unable to breathe through my nose.  :(  My sinuses feel like they have cement inside them.  :(

I also plan on asking about a dietician referral.

I really hope I feel better soon b/c I miss Pilates and spinning!

Not myself

I'm not feeling like myself today.  I haven't really felt like myself since we came back from London.  Even though my feet hurt, I had a lot of energy and felt good.  Recently, I just feel tired and sluggish and blah and whatnot.  I think it may have to do with the fact I'm out of my vitamin D supplement.

I think I am going to have to find a new and better GP if I am planning on staying here longer.  The last time I went and had my ankle looked at, about 30 seconds was spent on examination.  It just made me feel dismissed, like my issue wasn't real.

Anyways, I just feel blah.  Not depressed (well not anymore than usual), not anxious, just blah.  Maybe it is the weather, since it has been raining for what seems like forever now.  It rains, we get a bit of sun, it rains.  Repeat.

So I have no idea.  I'm excited to work out, but can't get the motivation to do it.  I have things I need to do and people to call etc, and can't "find the time."  I just wish I was at the point where everything came easy; healthy living and eating and working out and working on my dissertation.  Someday, some day soon I hope.

Today I had some me time and got my nails done and then I met Steph for lunch.  We walked around a bit after and then we came back and I ran a load of laundry and took a nap.  I meant to only sleep for a bit but it ended up being way longer than I wanted and missed spinning.  :(  Bad Cindy.

I also took a few photos of some of the damage that occurred in our neighborhood from the ridic winds here yesterday.  Not that it even makes any comparison to what has happened in the US, but it was crazy what some wind can do.

Tomorrow is a new day- hopefully with better choices.

Busy, wild weather Monday

If I were in Boston I could say there is quite a Nor'easter out there.  But I am in Glasgow.....and it is WINDY.  I mean 70mph gusts windy.  The plants in the windows are waving to and fro it is that windy.

Today started off ok.  I got my new Polar FT7 in the mail!  :)  It's the male version so it is kind of bulky and I could have sworn I selected the F version, but whatever.  It is great and has lots of functions that my old one doesn't.

After I watched L&O: CI I took it on a trial run at the gym.  I went at what I thought would have been a good time but I was wrong.  Even at 12:30ish it was busy and the 2 Espinners were out of service.  Combine that with the fact I was hungry and I ended up with a crappy workout.

I grabbed a sandwich at the gym cafe and then met Steph for coffee.  I nearly got blown away waiting for the bus!

We then went to St. Enoch to run some errands and to go to 3 to see if we could get her an iPhone (which we did!)  :)  We walked around a bit and I am glad I didn't have too much of a hard core work out since I wouldn't have had much energy to walk around in the wind and rain!    (I have no idea why that photo won't show up right side up!)

Anyways, I hope tomorrow will be a better workout day.

A grown up approach

I read a lot of blogs. Today's post by Bitch Cakes, really hit home, like a lot of blog entries sometimes do not. She talked about encountering and facing her childhood bully.

Now like many people out there who were "different," I was bullied, teased and made fun of. As a kid and teen, I was overweight, didn't have the right clothes, didn't know how to talk to others, and was pretty much a social recluse, to anyone other than my closest friends. I was an easy target, and I fell for it every time. I was miserable.

One day in 8th grade a group of girls who I considered friends left me a note at the lunch table we sat at telling me to go away, (in various languages) and said they had no more use for me. I was devastated. I fell into a deep depression. I didn't want to go to school, and was all but truant. When I went to school, I hid in the bathroom at lunchtime b/c I was scared, lonely, and ashamed. I even tried to commit suicide I was so upset and alone.

In the end I was caught hiding in the bathroom, things changed, I made new friends, and I grew to care less about what people thought of me, or at least pretended to on the outside.

But Bitch Cake's post made me think about my response to all of this and how I've plotted revenge over the years on the ringleader of the entire incident, of how I've wanted to even the score of those who hurt my feelings and made me a laughingstock later on in high school.

But now, a little part of me makes me wonder if that is worth it? I am sure I am have more education than all of them now (being on my second Masters and all and thinking of pursing my PhD.) While I may not have a husband and kids and a white picket fence, I do have something now, that they can't take away. And that is something to think about.

Update

I've merged my 2 blogs here to this location. It was getting silly trying to have 2 blogs and keep them separate, when it is my life and my life isn't divided into 2 pages.

Yesterday we walked a lot and picked up a few things and saw a rainbow.

I also got a paper back with a VERY bad grade. Very bad to the point it could put my graduating in jeopardy. I am not sure what the passing grade level is for the overall class and I can't seem to find that information on line. I may have to resubmit it, but even then, even if I got bumped up a letter I am not sure that would change the over all grade enough. I know it is my own fault. I totally blew through that paper and I was upset and worried about my mum. I also found that class a complete waste of time and that didn't really help my attitude toward the paper. I need to contact the professor and ask what the next step should be. (it also doesn't help that there isn't exactly a shit ton of research on what I wrote on either) I also gave my very frank opinion on the class and how I found it kind of a waste of time. I am not going to be all nice, if I feel that it doesn't serve its purpose.

Today I have my massage w/ R, and then I need to get a fair amount done on my Columbine paper. That is due in less than a week and I am about half way done.

Also Dice-K? WTF. :(

Catch up

The Red Sox won the home opener against the MFY! I do not think my neighbors appreciated my singing "Tessie" at the top of my lungs when it was over, however.

I am working on a 4k word paper. It's on Columbine, so I have been voraciously reading books and articles on the subject. So much to absorb.

It is going to be 66 here in Glasgow tomorrow! I can't wait! We are hitting the farmer's market! There will be pics! Nails will be done hopefully and then a lovely walk before I get back to working on this paper.

Have a great weekend!

How am I supposed to feel?

I am so full of a litany of emotions lately. I have no idea how I am supposed to feel. What were those 5 stages of grief House gave to Cameron? (not that I relate to Cameron at all but I kind of did then.) I think I am somewhere between anger and depression. IDK.

I feel lonely and isolated and filled with regret. No one seems to be talking to me, it seems. I don't know if it is because people do not know what to say to me, or feel that I made a mistake in not going back home for the funeral, that I am a bad daughter/sister/friend/anything under the sun.

I don't know if I making the right decisions anymore. I don't know anything anymore.

I don't even know how I'm supposed feel anymore. I didn't expect to feel so empty.

Edinburgh

Yesterday, despite a late start, [info]kyrina and I went to Edinburgh.  Considering what has gone on lately and my professors told me to relax this week and I have wanted to see more of Scotland, we decided that we'd start off in Edinburgh.  (in a week or 2 we are going to St. Andrews)

We took the train in and I wanted to take a bus tour of the city.  I like the views and it was a nice day.  We decided to get off at the first stop for tea and to go to the weaving museum (where we got to see a LOT of tartans including MacDonald (and Fraser) LOL) and kilts and all things Scottish.
When we went back to get the bus we found that we were too late for the last bus :(  (maybe next time, even though Steph doesn't like bus tours - I think they are fun and are a nice way to see the city and then decide where to go.)

We walked around, popped in lots of little shops and then went to the World's End.  I was excited b/c I had read about this pub in the Outlander series, and I tried to imagine Jamie, Claire, Ian, and Rollo sitting by the fire, enjoying a drink.

We walked around some more and took a haunted tour given by Burke of Burke and Hare.  It was fascinating, if a bit cheesy, but delightful all the same.  I was exhausted after that so we headed back home.  (I couldn't believe it cost 30p to have a pee at the train station!)  LMAO!

Pictures are here!  :)

Sunday blues and what I got up to Saturday

I've had this headache for what seems forever, only getting minor relief.  All week going to the workshop was torture.  I wasn't sleeping b/c of the pain (that and my shoulder) which made getting up at 7 not so fun.  I am glad it is over.  I really didn't get much out of it, until Thursday and I still have no idea what my assignment is going to be on.

I managed to struggle out to the shops w/ Steph yesterday.  First, we went to the farmers market down the hill and it was very cute and I had a lovely fresh scone.  We got some all natural soaps and oat bars as well.

Then we went to Buchanan b/c I needed to pick up my new glasses.  They were there, and I also picked up some makeup and more meds and other assorted things.

We poked around the area for a bit, popped into Forbidden Planet and then headed home.  On the way home I convinced her to stop and be all girly and get a manicure.  :)

I had a plan to finish my paper last night, but my head was being unreasonable in the evening so I spent half the time in the dark, and the other half we watched the first 2 episodes of Sherlock (again).

Today I have to finish my research proposal and read for Tuesday.  Neither of which are at the top of my list.  I hope I can get through at least finishing the paper without my head exploding.

Keep on keeping on...

Life is complicated.  My mom is in the hospital back home.    So I have been rather stressed about all of this, obviously.  Some of you are in the loop, and some are not and I am trying not to think about it at the moment, b/c I just get too overwhelmed.  I'm waiting to hear a definite definite and then I can commence freaking out again.

Not to mention the fact I have a ton of school work to deal with and that isn't helping stress levels.  Part of me wants to jump on the first plane home, but until I have all the facts, it isn't reasonable.  But the first sign of any issue I will.

So I am just keeping on keeping on.

Worrywort

Clearly I should be worrying about something that is 9 months in the future. But it is what I do.

So..... after this adventure, what comes next? Do I stay here and try to find a job? Do I go home? I can stay and work 2 years on my student visa. I can see if I can get into the PhD program- if my grades are good enough..... but IDK. The economy sucks all around. Will there be jobs? Teaching jobs? Will I be able to get one? IDK if I could get one back home- given that my graduation is in September and school will already have started. I don't want to go home to live at home and have no job or money.

Unrealistic dream: A certain celeb wakes up and realizes he should be marrying me! And does! And I live happily ever after. :)

Dream: move to London and work there teaching or consulting in regards to bullying issues (or working enough to live LOL)

Realistic: Stay here and hopefully find some sort of work or stay in school.

DO NOT WANT: to go home and have to live with my parents with no money or job. And even if I had a job I'd have no way to get to it with no car and no money to buy one.  (not that I don't love my family, it is just a full house there as it is)

Anyone have a crystal ball I can look into?  Anyone want to marry me so I can stay here, UK residents only!

I need to get better up updating

I really do.  I've been primarily doing school work for weeks, reading and writing.   It hasn't been very interesting or noteworthy.   The school reading and classes have been for me, personally.  But it isn't really something I can write about... it is more an internal process.

I got my topic for my dissertation approved and it is due on the 8th of August 2011.  Crazy.

So I am sitting in my living room watching Law and Order by the light of my Christmas tree.  My sleep schedule is a mess.  I rarely am asleep by 2 or 3 am.

We also went to go out to a Geek Chic night on Thursday.  We dressed as 10/Rose again, but NO ONE WAS DRESSED UP THERE.  We need to find a pub quiz or something locally b/c this is getting silly.

This weekend we did some errands and I got new wellies and gloves.  It's snowed here for 2 days and everything is icy and cold and no sanding has happened on the roads or sidewalks here.  I'm scared to go out.

Steph got some bad news this weekend.  I'm not going to go into it here, but needless to say it is not good and I really wish I could do something to help and make it all right.  It's just sad all around.

I have a paper due tomorrow at midnight and I am not confident in it right now.  *sigh*

Here are some pics!

20 October 2010

an adventure on Monday

(no previous Timelords were hurt in the making of this post)

Monday I went off to class in the afternoon and came back home afterwards.  It was a rather dull class on statistics and things I already knew....

Stephanie and I were sitting around when I read a tweet tat a certain hot former timelord was at BBC Scotland.  So we looked at each other, and booked it there as fast as we could.

Now I have a few rules about celebrity encounters.  I genereally feel awkward about seeing them in the world and do not want to interfere in their general life.  If they are out having dinner in the real world I may give them a smile, but I won't interfere.  But if they are leaving a public place where they were doing a publicity thing and I happen to be there, well I may smile and say hi and perhaps even ask for an autograph.

So we stayed for a bit over an hour and it seemed like there was no one about.  However late last night a picture was posted that he was indeed there, but until rather late.  So we would have had to wait for 3+hours out in the cold.  But we tried and next time hopefully we will have better results.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Friday-whatever I did was not much of note, as I cannot remember what it was.  LOL.

Saturday: I know I did nothing except to go to Boots, and then forgot to go again today to get my prescription.  Will have to go to tomorrow.

Sunday:

Stephanie and I went on a Glasgow Bus Tour.  It was FREEZING cold up on the roof deck of the bus but it was worth it.  It was interesting to hear about all of the history of the buildings and whatnot and see all of the sights.
After we went to Buchanan St/St. Enoch and walked around and then had tea at the Chippy Doon the Lane.  It was really good.  We had fish and chips.

I am really tired now and have a ton of reading to do.

Single Father in 2 hours!

As soon as the pictures upload I will add the link!

Pictures!

Thursday 14/10/10

Today was a busy day.  I didn't sleep well and was awake early.  I ended up dozing off for a while and got up at about 9:30ish.  I got up and got ready and went off to St. Enoch to run some errands.

I got home and Stephanie got home from class soon after.  We made lunch and then went to campus.  I needed to go to the used bookstore to get a resource book for my class.   Then I went to the regular campus bookstore to pickup a notebook and folders for my class.  After we went and registered for the campus fitness facility so we can start working out.

I had lecture after that back to back, so I went off to class.   My first class was far more interesting than the second, which was just presentations.  Mine will be due to present in 2 weeks so I need to get cracking.

I got home and had dinner and then watched L&O UK.

All in all a good day.  :)

Update

Friday was my 35th birthday.  It was a very nice day.  I got up and watched David Tennant on the telly and then got ready to go have coffee and get a manicure (which is already bloody chipped!) When we left, we saw a florist van had pulled up so I asked if it was for me, and it was.  :)  My sister and family had sent me flowers. :)

So we brought them in and then went for coffee and checked out the little charity shops by the uni.  We got lots of used books- Harry Potter, Doctor Who and the like and then went to a CD/DVD shop and got DVD's so we have region 1 DVD's on hand.

We had lunch at our local pub and then walked around a bit more and came back and had a rest and watched tv and just chilled.  It was a nice, quiet and relaxing day- which was all I wanted.   I was tired from the long week and whatnot so it was just what I wanted.  :)

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and v-gifts and lovely tweets.

Since then, not much to say.  Just reading and relaxing.  We did finally get internet today so I should be able to update daily or at least every other day from now on.  :)

Latest update

Sorry I haven't posted an update- no internet at home until 12/10!!!!!
Week 2 in Scotland

27/9 Monday: class where I was called a show off in regards to baseball

28/9 Tuesday: no class, went to library, looked at flat, found out we got the flat, went shopping for sheets and towels and a duvet. Packed up room, got rid of a suitcase, and random crap.

29/9 Wednesday: Moving day!  Of course it started pouring as soon as we brought all of our crap downstairs.  Cabbed it to new place.  Organized a few things, jumped in shower, ran to  class.  When I got home I found Steph had done a ton of laundry and made me dinner.  xxxxxx :)

30/9 Thursday: Errands and headed to Freshers fest.  There was a really long queue which sucked but we did get free goody bags with random things in it.  It was really loud and hot inside and it was starting to get to me.  We left there and went to get pilows, but still did not find hangers.  We came back and I took a nap before class, but I was so worn out and anxiety ridden from the past few days, not to mention sore, I ended up just sleeping until after 7, but I felt SO much better after.  I have to remember I can't treat my body like crap and I need to make sure I get enough rest.  I am still healing from surgery and I know I am doing more than I should especially when it comes to what I am carrying.

1/10 Friday: No class.  Went to Uni to drop off NHS paperwork and register w/ a GP.  I needed a script refilled that day and they were able to accommodate me by fitting me in at 3.  We had lunch at the local pub, Curler's.  It was good.  She had duck and I had falafel.  Steph had to go back to the flat b/c the boiler people were coming to look at it from 1-5.  I hung out at the library and internetted and then went to my very quick appt.   I got my script and then we headed to St. Enoch to get a digi box and DVD player and also to look for hangers.

We got the digi box and DVD player. (we found when we got home that the DVD player was broken and we needed an antenna cable for the digi box so no tv that night :(  )

We walked around St. Enoch and got Body Shop shampoo, shower gel, and massage oil since they were on sale and we were able to get a 20% discount.

We ran into Virgin media guy and he said that the install date for internet is still the 12th.  :(

We made a snack stop at Starbucks for coffee and internet and then we stopped at the Townhouse dollar store and got random things like a candle, a mat for outside the door (it's the Scottish flag!!) a bunny spoon rest for the stove, and Steph got a Tom Baker Doctor Who tshirt and bought me a jewelery tree for my birthday as an early birthday present.

We had a lovely roast chicken for dinner and relaxed.

2/10 Saturday:  Slept as late as possible (finally a good night's sleep; something to do with using the rest of my old ativan script) and had breakfast.  Headed to library for internets and Steph went to exchange the DVD and get an antenna cable.   She met me at the library and we internetted and pondered reading until I realized it was getting late and I was getting hungry so we went back to the flat and had left overs.

I took a nap and Steph decorated her fangirl cave.  We put up my Doctor Who posters in the living room and watched tv and even were able to get online for a bit.  I did some tidying up and we watched QI XL.  We went to bed at about midnight but I couldn't sleep and ended up cleaning the grout/lime buildup in the shower for about an hour.  LOL.

3/10 Sunday:  Slept ok, a little better than previous, and got up and had breakfast.  Our landlord needs to come by and measure the doorway to see if the couch she wants to get us will fit.  So we are just hanging out watching tv and doing some laundry and pondering the day.  Not sure what we are going to do, but eventually it will involve the internet I am sure.  :)

I have a workshop/conference class all week from 9-3 so it is going to be a long week for me.  Monday I have class from 9-3 and then 3-5.  Tuesday 9-3:30, Wednesday 9-3:30 and 4-6, Thursday 9-3:30 and 5-7 and then Friday (my birthday) from 9-3:30.  I still don't have a proper mobile and would really like to get one ASAP.  I am not sure when I am supposed to do this given I am so busy all week and everything closes so damned early.  *grumble*   I could switch to a different provider since they are closer to school but I would have to see if the price would be the same.  I also should check and see if there is an Orange closer to school than the one in Buchanan square.

We ended up going out at lunch time after we heard from our landlord whether or not she was coming by to take measurements.  She wasn't so we went out to Buchanan Galleries/St. Enoch to go to Primark and look for hangers.  We first stopped at Starbucks to check our email and then headed on.  We found the hangers and I got slippers and Steph picked up a few other things.  We checked on mobile prices at a mobile company called 3, and they have a better deal than Orange or Vodaphone.  Decisions, decisions.

We then headed back as we were planning to have tea at a local cafe.  We had high tea with little sandwiches and scones with cream.

We popped into Tesco to pick up a few things and then headed home, checking out our neighborhood- since we had found there was a Tesco right down the street.  We also found there was a Superdrug and a branch of our bank within 2 blocks.

I have lots of reading to do tonight and then must get to bed early since I have class at 9.

28 September 2010

Weekend of the beginning of week 2

This entry documents Friday-Monday of week 2 in Glasgow.

Not much went on the past few days.  It's been filled with reading for classes, walking around the shopping areas, eating chips and digestives, and sleeping as much as I can on the world's worst mattresses.

Saturday was mostly spend reading at the library and Sunday was walking around Glasgow, window shopping.  I did get a notebook for class and some more tights at Primark- nothing major.

Yesterday we slept in and I spent some time interneting and whatnot as my class wasn't until 5 pm.

Plans for today include 2 flat viewings and more reading.   I need to get a book and it doesn't seem to be at the bookstore or Waterstones.  :(

24 September 2010

Tues, Wed, Thurs of week 1 adventures

I've been so busy over the past days that Tue and Wed are going to be a quick  list for each day.

Tuesday: Day 5 21/09/2010

uni, library, checked out flat- walked all over east overshoe, found out about issues going through agencies and how this one wanted 6 months upfront which was nothing either of us had read or had cautioned us on. We were told maybe 2 months, and other international students had not even heard of this and one of my professors said it was basically bullshit when I told him on Wed. Had Indian takeout.

Wednesday: Day 6 22/09/2010

breakfast, library, contacted a million flats, found out I was overdrawn on my US account, lunch at uni, found out my unemployment was ended b/c I hadn't had any partial earnings. It is called UNEMPLOYMENT. I needed that money too. More library, first Youth and Young adulthood class which was me, the professor, and another student. We are going to meet in his office and have coffee each week. Rad. Have to write 4000 word paper. Not so rad. Exhausted and drained. Chippy for dinner. So bad, but oh so tasty. Fish and chips om nom nom nom

Thursday: Day 7 23/09/2010

My body forgets frequently that I had surgery less than 2 months ago, and that I am not as young as I used to be. I have been reminded of that a lot this week in all of the walking and hill climbing and lugging a bag around that I shouldn't be doing. (must get backpack when have money) (also must join gym and see a chiropractor) I also forget to see the forest despite the trees. It is so easy to get caught up in all of the stress and drama of the past weeks and miss out on what is right in front of me, which is not what I want to do. But there are nights, like tonight where I have to stop myself from overdoing it, or I am going to crash and burn before I have all my reading done for next week. But I am in the UK, I've done it. Where I've always wanted to come. Here I am. I need to remember that. And once I can sit in our flat and watch the BBC at the end of the day, I will certainly feel better. Today we got up a little later. I let Steph sleep later and then we went to breakfast and to uni library. I found that a flat I really like is still available and I hope we can go see it tomorrow (tentative for 2 pm). Otherwise maybe we can see others tomorrow. We don't have class tomorrow, but I do need to go there to get my bank letter and I PRAY my check. I did get some reading done and then we went to lunch and then walked to inquire about banking. We stopped to have tea and shortbread (Steph had cappucino.) Then we headed back via a cute shop that had artsy things and a dog and a replica phone box TARDIS we put Plushe Ten in.

More library and found my class was cancelled so we decided to leave the library so we could go to Buchanan St b/c Steph needed ink for her pen. I found a cheap shop and got a BIG bag for 2 quid to put the laundry and extra things I don't want to have to repack. Steph found a Classic Doctor Who wallet and we ridiculed Matt Smith. (sometimes it is just too easy) And we found lots of stuff we wanted- like Simm!Master- but not Spitty!Rasillon. I even found a classic kind of lunchbox with Edward Cullen for my sister. I can imagine the shipping cost for that!

Then we walked back and rested for a few and Steph wanted to check out a Gaelic society meeting on campus. I changed and we headed out. We found it was a bit different than we expected, so we left and went to check our emails and then wandered around until we settled on Chopstix for dinner. We came back and sat in the quiet lounge area for some time internetting until the rowdy boys showed up again and it wasnt quiet anymore so I came back up so I could put things away and have some quiet time and Steph went down to the bar. We have to check out of this room at 11 and then can check back into a different one for 3. We opted to pay the few extra pounds to have some privacy and have a private room.

I really hope this flat works out b/c living out of a hostel is a pain in the ass and the bed sucks and the towels suck and the water pressure is non existent. And there are no paper towels. I know I complain here, but the comforts of home are missed right now, like having a laundry machine, or the room in the shower to shave my legs. I really need to find out how to post a letter home. I know a 6 year old who misses her auntie. *wibble*

So weekend plans? Find a flat, do laundry, do readings, go to a club, get a good night's sleep, and be prepared for class Monday at 5.
